Our Mission
CannabisGlossary.org is a free, independent reference dictionary for cannabis terminology. We define 470+ terms across botany, chemistry, products, effects, law, industry, culture, and medicine — sourced to peer-reviewed literature and regulatory records, written in plain language, and available to everyone.
Why this site exists
Cannabis has its own language. A patient hearing "indica-dominant chemovar" from a budtender, a journalist parsing a "Schedule III rescheduling NPRM," a parent reading about "CBD isolate" — all of them need the same thing: a clear, trustworthy definition they can find in seconds.
Most cannabis glossaries are marketing tools embedded in dispensary websites, written to sell products rather than inform. CannabisGlossary.org has no products, no advertising, and no industry sponsors. Our only purpose is to explain.
Editorial standards
- Neutral and encyclopedic. We define terms, not promote them. We don't endorse strains, brands, or therapeutic claims beyond the evidence.
- Sourced. Chemistry and medical terms cite peer-reviewed literature. Legal terms cite statutes and case law. Cultural terms cite documented history.
- Disputed terms are flagged. Where the science, taxonomy, or legal meaning is contested, we say so with a ⚠️ marker and explain the dispute.
- Current. Definitions reflect the state of law, science, and industry as of April 2026.
