Uplifting
⚠️ Marketing descriptor with no standardized pharmacological definition. "Uplifting" appears on dispensary menus and product packaging to suggest mood-elevating, energizing, or antidepressant subjective effects, typically paired with "sativa" chemovar branding. Peer-reviewed cannabis pharmacology does not recognize "uplifting" as a defined endpoint; no validated scale operationalizes it. Plausible components — transient euphoria, mild activation, reduced rumination — are dose- and individual-dependent and are achievable with a broad range of THC:CBD:terpene profiles. NASEM (2017) and McPartland (2017 Cannabis Cannabinoid Res) explicitly caution that indica/sativa taxonomy and its marketing vocabulary ("uplifting," "relaxing") do not reliably predict chemical composition or effect. Consumers should rely on COA cannabinoid/terpene profiles rather than effect-descriptor marketing. Cross-reference Part 2 (Chemistry). Citations: McPartland JM.
