Decarb

"Decarb" is the informal culinary and cannabis-industry shorthand for decarboxylation, most often used as a verb ("decarbing the flower before infusion") in the context of preparing edibles, tinctures, or infused oils. Because oral ingestion of un-decarboxylated plant material yields primarily THCA and CBDA rather than the intoxicating/bioactive neutral forms, home and commercial edible preparation almost always includes a deliberate heating step — typically 110–120 °C for 30–60 minutes — before infusion into a lipid or alcohol carrier. Smoking, vaporization, and dabbing accomplish decarboxylation instantaneously at the point of use; edibles and tinctures require it as a separate processing step. → See also: Decarboxylation, THCA, CBDA.
