CBDA

CBDA (cannabidiolic acid, C₂₂H₃₀O₄) is the carboxylated biosynthetic precursor of CBD, produced from CBGA by CBDA synthase (CBDAS) (Taura et al., 2007, FEBS Letters 581:2929). Like other acidic cannabinoids, CBDA predominates in the living plant and decarboxylates on heating or prolonged storage. CBDA is a selective COX-2 inhibitor (Takeda et al., 2008, Drug Metabolism and Disposition 36:1917) and a 5-HT1A agonist with higher potency than CBD in a rat model of anticipatory nausea (Bolognini et al., 2013, British Journal of Pharmacology 168:1456). Bioavailability has historically been limited by instability, but a proprietary salt (EPM301 / H2CBD-related analogs) and the analog HU-580 have been developed for preclinical study. Evidence level: preclinical; no completed human RCTs for primary therapeutic indications as of April 2026. → See also: CBD, Decarboxylation, CBGA.
