Delivery

Delivery is the licensed sale and transport of cannabis goods directly to consumer addresses by a retailer's employee. California authorizes it under two license types: Type 9 Non-Storefront Retailer (delivery-only) and Type 10 Storefront Retailer (physical dispensary that may also deliver). Under DCC rules, deliveries are permitted only from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time; drivers must be direct employees (third-party gig platforms like DoorDash are prohibited), aged 21+, verifying ID at the door. Vehicles must be licensee-owned, unmarked, GPS-locatable, and use opaque packaging. Drivers may carry up to $5,000 in cannabis goods once orders are received. California authorized delivery into any jurisdiction statewide in 2018, upheld in court against local-government challenges. States permitting licensed delivery include CA, CO, NV, OR, MA, MI, NJ, NY, NM, AZ, IL, MD, and RI; Washington notably prohibits home delivery of recreational cannabis.
