Manufacturer

A manufacturer is the licensed entity that creates cannabis products — concentrates, edibles, beverages, topicals, tinctures, vape cartridges, capsules — via extraction, infusion, and packaging. California's DCC issues five manufacturer types: Type 7 (Manufacturing Level 2) for volatile-solvent extraction with butane, hexane, or propane (shatter, wax, BHO, distillate); Type 6 (Level 1) for mechanical or non-volatile extraction using CO₂, ethanol, water, or oils; Type N for infusion-only operations producing edibles without extraction; Type P for packaging and labeling only; and Type S for shared-use facilities where small manufacturers rotate through registered equipment. Type 7 facilities must meet C1D1 hazardous-location classifications, closed-loop system certification by a California-licensed engineer, and local fire-department permits. Edible THC in California is capped at 10 mg per serving and 100 mg per package; non-edible finished packages cap at 1,000 mg THC.
