Dr. Ethan Russo

Ethan B. Russo, MD, is a board-certified neurologist and psychopharmacology researcher who served as senior medical advisor and study physician to GW Pharmaceuticals from approximately 2003–2014, participating in the clinical development of Sativex and Epidiolex, and is the founder and CEO of CReDO Science, LLC, launched in 2020 with Nishi Whiteley. Russo articulated the clinical endocannabinoid deficiency (CECD) hypothesis—positing that disorders such as migraine, fibromyalgia, and irritable bowel syndrome may reflect underlying endocannabinoid tone abnormalities—in a 2004 paper in Neuro Endocrinology Letters and its 2016 update "Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency Reconsidered" in Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research (PMID 28861491). His 2011 British Journal of Pharmacology review "Taming THC: potential cannabis synergy and phytocannabinoid-terpenoid entourage effects" (PMID 21749363) remains among the most cited works on the entourage-effect concept.
