Serving
A serving is a regulator-defined packaging unit representing a "single portion" of a cannabis product, expressed in mg THC. Colorado (1 CCR 212-3), Washington (WAC 314-55-095), Oregon, and Canada all set 10 mg THC as the maximum single serving of edible cannabis; Colorado and Washington further cap a package at 100 mg THC (10 servings), while Canada caps the entire immediate container at 10 mg. A serving is not necessarily equivalent to a dose for a given consumer: Health Canada's "start low, go slow" guidance recommends beginners start at 2.5 mg — ¼ serving — and wait at least 2 hours before redosing, reflecting the mismatch between regulatory serving size and individual effective dose. Label accuracy is a documented problem; Vandrey et al. (2015 JAMA) found only 17% of 75 tested edibles were within ±10% of label.
