The practice of consuming cannabis immediately upon waking; bake derives from baked ("intoxicated by cannabis," U.S. slang from the 1970s). Merriam-Webster dates the first documented phrase-use to 1987, with widespread diffusion through the 1990s. ⚠️ Origin contested: Deadhead (Grateful Dead fan) lore claims 1960s–1970s coinage, though documentary evidence is absent.
