BioTrack

BioTrack is a cannabis track-and-trace and point-of-sale software system operated by Bio-Tech Medical Software, Inc. (d/b/a BioTrack), a subsidiary of Forian Inc. (NASDAQ: FORA) based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. BioTrack is METRC's primary competitor and was the original pioneer in commercial cannabis tracking software, predating METRC. State traceability contracts have included Hawaii, New Mexico (since 2015, expanded to adult-use in April 2022), Delaware, North Dakota, Florida (OMMU, 2022), and New York OCM (selected December 2022); Washington and Illinois historically used BioTrack before migrating. Per company disclosures, BioTrack's POS software is used in 38 states and 13 countries. BioTrack uses 16-digit barcodes assigned at the seedling stage rather than METRC's 24-digit RFID tags. Unlike METRC, BioTrack offers both the state-level traceability module and a commercial POS, cultivation, and processing platform; state traceability is provided at no cost to licensees in some jurisdictions (Florida, New York). → See also: METRC, Seed-to-sale, Tracking
