Recent U.S. cannabis slang (mid-2010s) for low-quality, stemmy, or counterfeit cannabis; a Washington, D.C.-origin Urban Dictionary entry appeared November 2014. Spread via hip-hop — XXXTentacion's "Look At Me!" (2017) and Keychainz Hefner's "Pass the Boof" (2018). ⚠️ Highly polysemous: "boof" also denotes rectal drug administration (prison and rave slang, publicized during the 2018 Kavanaugh hearings), failure, or a counterfeit item. Ironically reclaimed as a strain name (Super Boof, by breeder Blockhead).
