Budder

Budder is a soft, creamy, whipped BHO concentrate with a butter-like or cake-frosting consistency. Spelling variants differentiate subtle texture differences in industry usage: "budder" denotes the smoothest, most butter-like, firmer version; "badder" denotes a slightly looser, wetter, chunkier consistency closer to cake batter; and "batter" is an alternative spelling of badder. The product was created in the mid-1990s in British Columbia by a pseudonymous producer known as "BudderKing," first commercialized at the Da Kine dispensary in Vancouver in 2003, and featured in Cannabis Culture magazine's 2005 "Beautiful Budder" exposé. Production follows closed-loop BHO extraction, after which the extract is whipped at low to medium heat in a vacuum oven at 100–125°F for approximately 72 hours to introduce air and trigger nucleation. Gentler whipping produces creamier budder; more aggressive agitation drives the product toward drier badder or crumble. Finished budder is blond or gold to amber, tests at 70–90% THC, and retains more terpenes than shatter because its purge is shorter and gentler.
