Quartz

Quartz, in cannabis hardware, refers to synthetic fused silica (SiO₂, typically ≥99.9% pure) used for bangers, nails, inserts, terp pearls, and banger-insert dishes. Its material properties are well-suited to dabbing: a melting point above 1650°C, excellent thermal shock resistance, near-total chemical inertness, and high purity that does not impart flavor or react with concentrate at operating temperatures. Compared with borosilicate glass, quartz tolerates repeated torch heating far better, making it the standard for any surface subjected to direct flame. Compared with titanium, it does not oxidize or leave metallic notes. Compared with ceramic, it heats faster and is less prone to catastrophic cracking. Most cannabis quartz is lab-grown from purified silica sand; purity grades and sourcing (often described as "Japanese," "Chinese," or "domestic" quartz) vary in price and perceived quality, though objective flavor differences between high-grade sources are subtle.
