The 510 thread is the dominant connector standard between cannabis vape cartridges and batteries. The specification — a 5mm-diameter male screw with ten threads at 0.5mm pitch — originated in the e-cigarette industry around 2007, when a Chinese manufacturer introduced it for a nicotine device. The cannabis industry adopted the thread wholesale as vape carts proliferated after 2014, and today roughly 85–90% of cannabis and CBD cartridges use 510 threading. Its near-universal adoption made cartridges and batteries interchangeable across brands, lowering costs and letting consumers mix hardware. The connector carries only two conductive surfaces — center positive and outer ground — so batteries signal the coil purely by voltage; some 510 batteries offer fixed voltage, while others allow adjustment between roughly 2.0 and 5.0 volts or offer preheat modes for viscous oils.
