Diamonds

THCA diamond crystals in terpene sauce — up to 99% pure cannabinoid

Diamonds — specifically THCA diamonds — are large, translucent crystalline structures of nearly pure THCA grown out of a saturated cannabis extract. Purity typically runs 95–99.9% THCA. The crystals are non-psychoactive as sold because THCA is inactive; heat applied during dabbing decarboxylates THCA to Δ9-THC, and the 0.877 conversion factor means a pure THCA diamond yields roughly 87.7% of its mass as THC after heating. Large faceted diamonds were pioneered by Guild Extracts (California), the first laboratory to achieve greater than 99% purity with large-crystal refinement; earlier approximately 97% powdery THCA isolates existed, but Guild developed true faceted crystal production. Two production methods dominate. Jar tech (or diamond mining) places hydrocarbon extract with roughly 10% residual butane into a sealed pressurized vessel and allows slow crystallization over 1–2 weeks up to several months, at controlled temperature and pressure, with the vessel periodically "burped" to manage gas buildup. The crystals are then strained from the mother liquor and purged — initially at 85–90°F for 1 hour without vacuum, followed by up to 3 weeks at room temperature, and final deep-vacuum purges of 60 hours for the liquid fraction and 72 hours for the crystals. Controlled Crash, developed by Evolved Extraction, is a proprietary rapid method using cold propane injection with heating and cooling cycles to force crystallization in 1–2 hours. Finished diamonds are translucent and faceted, ranging from nearly colorless (pure) to gold (terpene-bonded). ⚠️ Jar tech is non-compliant in California per DCC regulations because glass jars do not meet engineered process-vessel standards. Marketing also frequently conflates "99% THCA" with "99% THC," ignoring the 0.877 decarboxylation conversion — a source of consumer confusion about effective potency.
