Isolate

In the chemistry sense, an isolate is a single cannabinoid purified to high chemical homogeneity — typically ≥ 95–99% by HPLC — free of other cannabinoids, terpenes, waxes, and plant matter. Crystalline CBD isolate (most commonly > 99% CBD) is the archetypal example and the active pharmaceutical ingredient of Epidiolex. THC isolate, CBG isolate, CBN isolate, and several minor-cannabinoid isolates are also commercially produced. Isolates permit precise pharmacological dosing and are the required substrate for most controlled clinical trials, but by definition they lack the surrounding terpene and minor-cannabinoid matrix found in full-spectrum preparations.
