Kush

Toponym from the Hindu Kush mountain range spanning Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan — source of landrace indica genetics carried to California and Europe via the "Hippie Trail" in the late 1960s and 1970s. Sensi Seeds preserved Hindu Kush genetics from the 1980s. Strain names such as OG Kush and Bubba Kush proliferated through 1990s Dutch seed-bank culture and Los Angeles hip-hop. By the 2000s "kush" functioned as a generalized synonym for high-grade, indica-leaning cannabis, especially in rap lyrics and dispensary menus.
