Papers

Rolling papers are thin combustible sheets used to roll cannabis into joints and spliffs. They are sold in booklets with an adhesive gum strip along one edge that is activated by moisture. Standard sizes include single-wide, 1¼ (the most popular for personal joints), 1½, king-size, and king-slim; pre-rolled cones — tapered paper tubes ready for filling — are a standard alternative format. Three materials dominate. Wood-pulp papers are the oldest format, thicker and more opaque, with a medium-to-fast burn and a subtle papery flavor; they are easiest for beginners. Rice papers are ultra-thin and translucent, pressed from rice straw often blended with flax or hemp, and produce the slowest, cleanest burn with minimal ash and near-neutral flavor; they are slippery and humidity-sensitive, so they demand more rolling skill. Hemp papers, made from industrial hemp cellulose, have a slightly textured surface that grips flower well, a medium burn rate between rice and wood pulp, a mild earthy flavor, and good tear resistance; they are widely considered the best all-around option. Less common materials include flax, bamboo, transparent cellulose, and palm leaf.
