Pollen

⚠️ Pollen is one of the most ambiguous terms in cannabis vernacular, carrying three distinct meanings that must be disambiguated in any reference context. First, in European (especially Spanish and Moroccan) tradition, "pollen" refers to pressed dry-sift hashish — Moroccan hash sold across Spain has been marketed as "pollen" for decades, and the hardware category "pollen press" and "pollen box" reflects this usage. Second, in casual North American usage, "pollen" is used loosely as a synonym for kief — the loose trichome powder collected from grinder screens or shaker boxes. Third, in literal botanical terms, pollen is the male cannabis reproductive pollen used only in breeding; it carries negligible cannabinoids and is not a commercial consumable. The term is a botanical misnomer when applied to trichomes or kief — trichomes are glandular epidermal structures, not pollen grains — but the usage is entrenched in European hash vernacular and in the hardware vocabulary that surrounds it.
