Rosin press

A rosin press is a purpose-built extraction device with two parallel heated platens (each with independent PID temperature control), a pressure gauge, and a frame rated for tons of force. Platen sizes scale with operator tier: 3"×5" personal, 4"×7" prosumer, and 6"×12" or larger for commercial operation. Frame force ratings typically run 1–25 tons, targeting an effective platen pressure of 300–1,000 PSI on the bag. Pressing above 1,000 PSI platen pressure risks "blowout" — bag rupture and plant-material contamination of the finished rosin. Heating is delivered by resistive cartridge heaters embedded in the platens, with independent top and bottom PID control allowing different temperatures on each plate — useful for techniques that preheat the bag from one side before applying full pressure. Drive options mirror the broader press category: manual screw, hydraulic bottle jack, electric hydraulic, and pneumatic air cylinder, in ascending order of speed and repeatability.
